Incomplete records, mainly 1948-1961, of the office responsible for creating advertising and publicity for the Wisconsin State Fair and for the 1948 Wisconsin Centennial Exposition. Included are correspondence, minutes, publicity schedules, attendance records, and media consultant and financial reports relating to the creation of publicity. Also included are some products of that activity including advertising copy, press releases, public service announcements, newspaper clippings (available only on microfilm), and brochures.

The first Wisconsin State Fair was held in Janesville in October 1851, sponsored by the State Agricultural Society. From 1851 to 1885, the fair was held at different locations. Milwaukee was the site from 1886 to 1891, and in this last year a permanent site was purchased there. West Allis, in Milwaukee County, continues to be the fair's home.
